ROCK HILL, SC— Winthrop softball is set to host the Winthrop Invitational this weekend beginning Friday with a 1 p.m. contest against DePaul and then facing Cleveland State at 3 p.m.

WINTHROP INVITATIONAL
The original schedule for the Winthrop Invitational was altered after the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore removed itself from competition. The revised schedule has the Eagles facing Cleveland State twice and DePaul three times.

BRING'EM ON HOME
Junior Maddie Antone has been impressive in her return this season after missing the 2016 season. So far through 14 games this year she's driven in a team-high 16 runs (which is tied for 1^st in the Big South) and is batting .368 with four doubles, a triple and two home runs. She reached her 100^th career hit against the College of Charleston on Feb. 19.

SETTING THE TABLE
Paige Haley has batted in the leadoff spot in all 16 games and has been a big part in why the team in scoring 4.3 runs per game. Her .360 average is third best on the team but she leads the team with 14 runs and sports a .458 on-base percentage. Her 14 runs are tied for second most in the Big South. She's scored in 9-of-16 games played.

SERIES HISTORY/SCOUTING (DEPAUL)
DePaul enters the weekend 4-6 on the year and hasn't played since Feb. 19 when it defeated Bradley 11-2 in six innings at the New Mexico State Tournament in Las Cruces, NM. The Blue Demons are scoring 3.9 runs per game and are led offensively by Haydn Christensen with a .357 average. Megan Leyva leads the team with 10 RBI and is tied for the team-lead in runs with six. Missy Zoch and Kennedy Garcia have combined to start eight of the 10 games. Zoch is 1-2 with a 4.76 ERA while Garcia is 2-2 with a 5.25 ERA.
SERIES HISTORY/SCOUTING (CLEVELAND STATE)
Cleveland State enters the weekend at 1-12 on the year and has lost 10 straight. Mel Woodard leads the team with four RBI while Mackenzie Joecken and Riley Ries each have two. Joecken has the most starts in the circle with four as she's 1-6 with a 4.16 ERA.

TWO EAGLES EARN BIG SOUTH WEEKLY HONORS
Winthrop sophomore pitcher Kiley Majette and freshman Ashley Westbrooks earned Big South weekly honors for their performances at the Cougar Classic last weekend. Majette was named the Pitcher of the Week after going 3-0 with her first career save and posting a 1.71 ERA. Westbrooks was named the Freshman of the Week as she batted .462 with a run and four RBI and extended her hitting streak to nine games before going 0-for-1 in the final game of the tournament against the Cougars.

BIG SOUTH PRESEASON POLL
Winthrop is picked to finish seventh in the Big South Conference preseason poll, but has expectations of being toward the top of the league. With the addition of Antone and the consistency of Paige Haley through her career at the plate along with the emergence of Leah Young, Morgan Lowers and Blake Wallert the Eagles expect to have a lot more firepower up and down the lineup than the last few year
