ROCK HILL, SC – Coming off its first victory of the season, the Winthrop lacrosse team will host two games this weekend against William & Mary and VCU.

The Eagles will meet the Tribe of William & Mary Friday at 4 p.m. before hosting the VCU Rams Sunday at 1 p.m.

Winthrop downed Siena last Sunday 11-10 for its first victory of the young season.  Junior Nicole Beatson netted six goals, which helped earn her the Big South Player of the Week nod.  Katherine Judge added three goals while Kristen Shriver grabbed two including the game-winner.  Freshman goalie Chloe Wormsley recorded nine saves for her first collegiate victory.

William & Mary arrives in Rock Hill with a 0-2 record against strong competition.  The Tribe fell to Maryland 13-3 and George Mason 9-7.  Lindsey Jenks has led the team in scoring this year with four goals.  Abby Junior has added two goals and leads the Tribe in ground balls with 10.  Alex Lista has played both games in goal, allowing 22 goals while making 24 saves.

The Eagles and Tribe have met only once before, in 2016.  On the road, Winthrop picked up a close 10-9 victory.

VCU also enters the weekend with a 0-2 record, dropping two home games, but will play at Campbell on Friday before heading to Rock Hill.  The Rams fell 10-7 to Old Dominion and 20-10 to UMBC in the first week of the season.  The Eagles also met VCU for the first time last season, earning a decisive 19-7 victory on the road over the Rams.

Molly Barcikowski has led the Rams this season with five goals and one assist while Sky Hyatt has added four goals and one assist and leads the team with seven ground balls.  Ria Peralta has played both games in goal, allowing 30 goals while making 24 saves.

Following the pair of weekend games, the Eagles will close out their four-game home stretch on Friday, March 3 with a 7 p.m. contest against Oregon.
