DURHAM, NC – The Winthrop women's basketball team fell on the road to the 14th-ranked Duke Blue Devils 101-30 Sunday afternoon at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Duke (8-2) jumped out to a 14-0 lead before Courtney Hagaman nailed a three-pointer to get Winthrop (1-8) on the scoreboard. The Blue Devils led 28-5 after the first quarter. Three different Eagles contributed to Winthrop's seven points in the second quarter as Duke took a 52-15 lead into halftime.
The Blue Devils opened the second half on an 18-0 run before Kayla Brown connected on a three-pointer. Brown finished the third quarter with six points and led the Eagles with 10 on the afternoon. Duke increased its lead to as much as 72 in the fourth quarter before taking the 101-30 victory.

Kayla Brown's 10 points came on 4-of-14 shooting including hitting three of seven three-point attempts. Anika Riley and Kayla Atkins tied for the team lead with five rebounds each. The Eagles shot 26 percent from the floor for the game including 40 percent in the fourth quarter.
Duke forced 15 of Winthrop's 28 turnovers and the Blue Devils scored 40 points off the Eagles' miscues. Winthrop scored 12 of its 30 points from inside the paint.

Winthrop will have the next week off before heading to Macon, GA to take on the Mercer Bears next Sunday, December 17.
