CHARLESTON, SC – The Winthrop Volleyball team defeated Charleston Southern 3-0 on Tuesday at the Buc Dome.

EAGLES HIGHLIGHTS

• Junior Phoebe Wu led the Eagles with 16 kills and only three errors with a .351 hitting percentage
• Sophomore Sydney Gunter helped the Eagles when she had 10 kills and only two errors with a .381 hitting percentage
• Junior Marion Vaucher also helped the Eagles as she had 10 kills with three errors and a hitting percentage of a .318

 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Set 1

• Winthrop and Charleston Southern were close until Winthrop started pulling away at 13-9 while the Eagles having 10 kills
• The Buccaneers tried to fight back and brought it to two points but Winthrop went on a 5-0 run to make it 19-14
• The Eagles went on to win 25-20 with an attack error by Charleston Southern to end the set
• Wu had seven kills and no errors while Vaucher had five kills and one error

 
Set 2

• Winthrop started on a 8-2 run
• Charleston Southern fought back and tied it at 13-13
• Winthrop never let Charleston Southern led as it went on to win 25-19 with a kill by senior Keaupono Fey
• Gunter had four kills in this set and junior Carlie Skelton had six digs

 
Set 3

• The Buccaneers only led 1-0 this set as Winthrop started on a 12-8 led
• The Eagles dominated the whole set to win easily 25-18
• Wu had six kills and no errors while freshman Puaoolelagi Sao had seven digs
