ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop Volleyball team fell to UNC Asheville on Senior Day 3-2 on Saturday at the Winthrop Coliseum.

EAGLES HIGHLIGHTS

• Sophomore Sydney Gunter led the Eagles with 17 kills, three errors, and .452 hitting percentage
• Senior Keaupono Fey helped the Eagles with 15 kills, four errors, and .393 hitting percentage

 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Set 1

• Both teams kept it close the whole set
• Winthrop was up 21-19 until UNC Asheville went on a 4-0 run to make it 23-21
• The Bulldogs went on to win 25-22
• Sophomore Sydney Gunter had five kills in the set while junior Marion Vaucher had 4 kills

 
Set 2

• The Eagles Started the set on a 11-4 run
• UNC Asheville tried to come back but Winthrop cruised through the second set for the victory of 25-16
• Vaucher had five kills while Fey had four kills
• Sophomore Siani Yamaguchi had 24 assists

 
Set 3

• Winthrop started on a 9-3 run
• The Eagles never let UNC Asheville get close as they went on to win 25-19
• Fey had 5 kills while Gunter had 4 kills

 
Set 4

• The Bulldogs started the set with a 17-7 run
• Winthrop went on a 14-4 run to tie it 21-21
• Both teams fought back-and-forth until a service error and an attack error let the Bulldogs win 26-24
• Vaucher had six kills and Fey had three kills

 
Set 5

• The Bulldogs started on a 8-3 run to force Winthrop to call a timeout
• Winthrop fought back but with a 3-0 run force Winthrop to call its second timeout
• UNC Asheville won 15-9
• The Bulldogs Cara Guthrie had seven kills in the set
