ROCK HILL, SC – Junior Marion Vaucher had 15 kills that propel the Winthrop Volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Charleston Southern on Tuesday night.

• Junior Marion Vaucher led the Eagles with 15 kills with a .419 hitting percentage and only two errors
• Junior Phoebe Wu helped the Eagles with 14 kills with four errors

 
HOW IT HAPPENED

Set 1

• Winthrop started on a 8-1 run with three service aces and two of them from sophomore Siani Yamaguchi
• The Eagles kept good pace and were up 15-9 until Charleston Southern went on a 5-0 run to make it 15-14
• Winthrop pulled away and ended the set on a 5-0 run to win 25-18 with two kills coming from Vaucher
• Vaucher had six kills in the set while freshman Pauoolelagi Sao had nine digs
• Winthrop as a team had four service aces

Set 2

• Both teams kept it close at 9-9, then Winthrop went on a 5-0 run to make it 15-9 with two kills from sophomore Sydney Gunter
• The Buccaneers tried to come back but Winthrop cruised through the second set 25-18
• Wu had seven kills in the set while sophomore Siani Yamaguchi had nine digs
• Winthrop as a team had three service aces

Set 3

• Charleston Southern started on a 5-0 run and eventually made it 9-3
• Winthrop fought back to brought to one at 10-9
• The Eagles came back and made it 20-17 that forced Charleston Southern to call a timeout
• Winthrop went on to win 25-19 with a kill by senior Kenupono Fey
• Vaucher had five kills and zero errors while Fey and Wu both had four kills and zero errors

The Eagles will play their final home game this Saturday against UNC Asheville beginning at 4 pm. It will be senior night.
