Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Eagles Earn Scoreless Draw Against Campbell Saturday on Senior Day

ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop women's soccer team earned a scoreless draw Saturday afternoon against the Campbell Camels to close out the regular season.

Winthrop's record moves to 5-9-2 overall and 2-6-1 in the conference with the draw while Campbell goes to 9-6-2 overall and 5-2-2 in the Big South.

Saturday was senior day for the Eagles and seniors Jil White, Courtney McLeod, Lauren Kelly, Kendall Roberson and Zoe Conover were honored before the game.

The draw sets the Eagles up to earn a Big South tournament berth Saturday night.  If Gardner-Webb loses to Longwood, then the Eagles will clinch a spot in the tournament.  If Gardner-Webb ties or wins then the Eagles will have to wait until Tuesday to find out their fate when Gardner-Webb hosts UNC Asheville in a makeup game.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Both teams had scoring chances throughout regulation.  Winthrop outshot the Camels 7-3 in the first half and Campbell outshot the Eagles 9-5 in the second half.

In the first period of extra time, the Eagles dominated possession and scoring chances.  Winthrop kept the Camels shotless in the first overtime period while taking two of their own.

Campbell grabbed control early in the second overtime period and outshot the Eagles 4-0.  Winthrop, however, did get a few chances late, earning multiple corners in the final two minutes but couldn't get one in the net.

STATS OF NOTE

Jil White and Natalie Royaards each finished with three shots while Zoe Conover and Izzy Barton each tallied two.  Kendall Roberson made her first-career start in net for the Eagles on Senior Day and Ashlynn Harris who came in in relief, made six saves.
