Eagles' Season Ends With 2-0 Loss to High Point Friday in Big South Tournament Quarterfinals

HIGH POINT, NC – The Winthrop women's soccer team fell 2-0 Friday evening to the High Point Panthers in the quarterfinals of the 2017 Big South Conference Tournament.

Winthrop's season comes to a close with a 5-10-2 record.  High Point improves to 11-7-1 and will play in the tournament semi-finals next Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

High Point got on the board just before halftime off of a penalty kick.  Meredith Dunker got taken down in the penalty area and Paige Rombach stepped up and put the penalty kick to the left of a diving Ashlynn Harris.

The Panthers added an insurance goal in the 86th minute.  The Eagles were unable to clear a bouncing ball in the box and High Point's Michele Miccihe got a head to the ball and put it past Harris.

STATS OF NOTE

Winthrop was only credited with two shots on the night but had a handful of scoring opportunities.  Allie Thomas and Natalie Royaards were each credited with one shot.  Ashlynn Harris was credited with two saves on the evening.
