Volleyball Falls To Liberty 3-0 On Friday

ROCK HILL, SC – Liberty Flames blanked Winthrop 3-0 on Friday at the Winthrop Coliseum.

EAGLES HIGHLIGHTS
  • Sophomore Siani Yamaguchi led the Eagles with 25 assist and three kills on four total attacks
  • Freshman Puaooleglagi Sao helped the Eagles with 16 digs
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
  • Both teams were neck and neck until Liberty went on a 5-1 run to make it 12-6
  • The Flames kept attacking as Casey Goodwin had back-to-back kills and an error by sophomore Jace Kleffner forced Winthrop to call a timeout
  • Liberty won the set 25-16 with a kill by Gabrielle Vess
  • Winthrop had 10 errors in that set with only 13 kills while Liberty had 10 kills and two errors
  • With the 13 kills, Pheobe Wu had six of them
Set 2
  • The Flames started off hot with the lead of 18-13
  • The Eagles fought back to tie it at 21-21 with Gunter having two kills in that period
  • Liberty finished on a 4-1 run to win 25-22
  • Winthrop had 15 kills with eight errors while Liberty had 16 kills with six errors
Set 3
  • The Flames started on a 10-3 run
  • Winthrop scored the next three points before Liberty went on a 8-0 run to make it 18-6
  • The Flames finished on a 7-4 run to win 25-10
  • Casey Goodwin for the Flames had 10 kills in the third set
  • Winthrop only had three kills to Liberty's 16 kills
  • The Eagles finished 31 kills, 26 errors with a .041 hitting percentage while Liberty had 42 kills, 11 errors with a .333 hitting percentage
