CHARLESTON, SC – The Winthrop women's soccer team allowed a fourth-minute goal to Charleston Southern and despite outshooting the Buccaneers, fell 1-0 on the road Wednesday afternoon.
Winthrop falls to 5-9-1 overall and 2-6 in the conference while Charleston Southern improved to 5-9-2 overall and 3-4-1 in the Big South
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the fourth minute, Charleston's Sidney Doherty put the ball in the back of the net. After the ball bounced around the Eagle penalty area, Doherty was able to get her foot to the ball through a crowd and tap it into the right corner.
STATS OF NOTE
Charleston Southern outshot the Eagles 8-3 in the first half while Winthrop outshot the Buccaneers 8-2 in the second half. The Eagles put four of their shots on goal in the second half but couldn't put a ball past Alyssa Dellacqua who finished with five saves. Gabi Hull led the Eagles with three shots on goal. Ashlynn Harris finished the match with two saves.
NEXT TIME OUT
Winthrop finishes its regular season on Saturday at 1 p.m. hosting the Campbell Camels. Saturday's contest will be Senior Day and the program's five seniors will be recognized before the match.
