ROCK HILL, SC— The Winthrop women's soccer team fell 3-2 to Georgia Southern,
Saturday afternoon at Eagle Field.
The loss drops Winthrop to 2-3 and is now 3-3 all-time against Georgia Southern, who improves to 2-2-1. The Eagles now prepare to go on the road
Wednesday, Sept. 7 against East Tennessee State at 7 p.m.
Winthrop's
Brianna Palmer started off the scoring in the 29
th minute.
Keeley Leising's corner kick hit the post and Palmer struck it first time into the net.
Georgia Southern tied it up in the 40
th minute when Rachel Hoekstra headed in a cross from Sarah Price.
Winthrop took the lead back early in the second half as Palmer scored her second goal of the game in the 48
th minute off a service into the box by
Dylan Patterson.
Georgia Southern evened the score just moments later when Melinda Lukas got a pass from Sarah Price, dribbled into the box and fired a shot into the top right corner. Price then netted the game-winner in the 75
th minute. A ball was played into a crowd in the box, it popped out to Taylor Burns and she laid it off to Price for a shot near the top of the six that found the back of the net.
Winthrop finished with a 13-6 advantage in shots and 7-5 in corner kicks.
