ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop volleyball team swept past the Western Carolina Catamounts in three sets Tuesday evening in non-conference action.

With the victory the Eagles' record improved to 6-5 on the season and 2-0 at home while the Catamounts fell to 5-7 on the year.

Western Carolina controlled most of the early going of the opening set and led by as much as four at 15-11.  The Eagles battled back in a big way, going on a 10-1 run to take a 21-16 lead and easily going on for the 25-19 first-set victory.

In the second set, the two sides were even through the first 14 points before Winthrop rattled off seven points in a row, taking a 14-7 lead.  The Catamounts were able to pull a few points back and get within three at 23-20, but no closer as the Eagles took the second set 25-20.

The two teams went back and forth in the third set.  Winthrop led early by as much as five at 10-5 but Western Carolina battled back to eventually take a 20-17 advantage.  Following an Eagle timeout, Winthrop went on an 8-1 run to win the set 25-21.
