ROCK HILL, SC – The top-seeded Winthrop lacrosse team will host the fourth-seeded Coastal Carolina Chanticleers Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. in the Big South Conference semifinals, aiming for a second straight trip to the conference title game.

The Eagles (18-2) earned a trip to the semifinals with an 18-2 victory over Presbyterian in the quarterfinals.  Coastal Carolina (11-6) advanced with a 9-8 double overtime victory over Liberty.

Earlier this season, Winthrop went down to Conway and came away with an 8-6 victory over the Chanticleers.  In the first meeting, Shannon Gallagher netted three goals and added one assist while Logan McCarthy scored two goals in the victory.

Winthrop is 5-0 all-time against the Chanticleers with four regular-season victories and one tournament victory coming in the quarterfinals of the 2014 tournament.

The second semifinal is slated for a 7 p.m. start and will feature the second-seeded High Point Panthers and third-seeded Campbell Camels.

The semifinal winners will then meet on Saturday in the Big South Championship at noon and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.

Tickets for the semifinals and championship will be available at the Eagle Field box office.  Prices are $5 for adults, $3 for seniors (55+), children (12 and under) and Winthrop faculty/staff with ID and $1 for college students with ID.  The Eagle Field box office is cash only.
