Lacrosse Opens Conference Play Saturday Afternoon at Radford

ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop lacrosse team continues its four-game road swing Saturday as the Eagles open conference play at Radford.

Winthrop enters Saturday's Big South opener with a 9-2 overall record, coming off a 7-6 victory over UMBC on March 19.  The Eagles are 1-2 all-time in conference openers.

Senior midfielder Shannon Gallagher broke out of her scoring slump against the Retrievers, netting four goals.  Goalie Alaina Girani recorded 10 saves against UMBC and earned her third Defensive Player of the Week award for her performance.

The Highlanders, who are in their first-year of NCAA competition, enters Saturday's contest with a 1-6 record.  Radford's sole victory came over Howard in early March and Radford fell to Kennesaw State in its last contest on March 20.

Gracie Peterson and Emma Rogers have led the Highlanders offensively this season, netting 17 and 15 goals respectively.  Adrian Ruis is the team's leader on the draw, corralling 33 draw controls.  Hannah Rosen has played every minute in goal this season for Radford, allowing 17.43 goals per game while recording a .416 save percentage.  Rosen also leads the team in ground balls with 26.

Following Saturday's contest against the Highlanders, Winthrop will return to Virginia to face the Liberty Flames at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30.
