ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop lacrosse team will be looking to snap a two-game losing skid Saturday afternoon when the Eagles face the UMBC Retrievers on the road at 12 p.m.
Winthrop (8-2) is coming off a 9-6 setback to the Bucknell Bison on Wednesday afternoon. This is Winthrop's first two-game losing skid since April of 2014.
Wednesday the Eagles were led by Kristen Shriver who finished with three points on one goal and two assists. Five other Eagles each tallied one goal. Goalie Alaina Girani recorded 10 saves while allowing seven goals in the loss.
UMBC is 5-2 on the year and have won its last two contests over Drexel and LaSalle. The Retrievers have scored an average of 13.14 goals per game this year while allowing 8.43.
Carolyn Jamison is the team's primary scoring threat, tallying 25 goals this season to go along with six assists. Marissa Davey and Sam Nolan have each scored 16 goals this year. Ashley Peacock has seen the majority of the minutes in cage for UMBC and has allowed 8.77 goals per game with a .477 save percentage.
Saturday will be Winthrop's final non-conference contest of the season. The Eagles will open conference play on the road at Radford on Saturday, March 26.
