Lacrosse Hosts Cincinnati Friday at 2 p.m. at Eagle Field

ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop lacrosse team will host the Cincinnati Bearcats Friday at 2 p.m. at Eagle Field as the Eagles look to continue their unbeaten streak.

The Eagles have opened their season with a 2-0 record for the first time in program history, picking up victories over Jacksonville and Furman last weekend.

Winthrop has been led by senior Shannon Gallagher who picked up the Big South's Offensive Player of the Week award after scoring six goals and notching two assists last week.  Also with a strong week was senior Logan McCarthy who tallied five points against the Paladins with four goals and one assist and also scored once against Jacksonville.

Defensively, sophomore goalie Alaina Girani has had a solid start to the season allowing only nine goals through two contests which earned her the Big South Defensive Player of the Week award.  Through two games she has a 4.84 goals against average and a .654 save percentage.

Cincinnati enters Friday's contest with a 1-1 mark, picking up a victory over Presbyterian after falling in its season-opener to Stetson. 

Megan Bell has led the Bearcats with eight points through two games on six goals and two assists while Courtney Curtis has added four goals.  Bell also leads the team in draw controls with 12 and ground balls with seven.  In goal for the Bearcats is Meg Gulmi who has 7.5 goals against average and a .483 save percentage.

The Eagles and Bearcats have met twice before and have split both contests with each team winning on the road.  Winthrop downed Cincinnati 17-5 last season.

Following Friday afternoon's contest, Winthrop will have a doubleheader on Sunday.  The Eagles will travel to Davidson at noon before hosting St. Francis at 6 p.m. at Eagle Field.
