ROCK HILL, SC—Winthrop sophomore
Sawyer Mills tied for fourth place and the Eagle men finished 12
th out of 22 teams in the 54-hole East Bay Deli Classic that finished up Tuesday at the Turtle Point Golf Course on Kiawah Island.
Mills (Easley, SC) shot a 2-under par total of 214 to finish five shots behind tournament medalist Andrew Novak of Wofford. Mills opened with a 71 on Sunday, followed by a round of 73 on Monday and capped his performance with a 70 on Tuesday as he moved up from 12
th in the individual standings to a career-best fourth place finish.
Playing in its final fall tournament, coach
Kevin Pendley's squad shot 904 to finish 37 shots behind tournament champion Tennessee's 867 (286-296-286). The Eagles opened the tournament with a round of 294 on Sunday to stand tied for fourth. The Eagles slipped into a tie for eighth after turning in a score of 300 on Monday, and then shot 310 in the final round to finish 12
th.
