Men's Soccer Hosts Gardner-Webb Wednesday Night

Winthrop men's soccer will play its final two regular season games at home beginning with Gardner-Webb on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 6 p.m.

Winthrop is 3-10-1 on the year and 0-5 in the league after falling 1-0 at UNC Asheville this past Saturday. The Eagles dominated possession and created several scoring chances with a season-high 21 shots and nine shots on goal but the difference in the game was an own goal in the 16th minute. This matchup will air on the Big South Network.

This will be just the fourth home game of the season for the Eagles as they look to finish on a positive note.

Winthrop and Gardner-Webb meet for the 22nd time as the Eagles lead the all-time series 15-4-2 and 6-1-1 in Big South regular season meetings. The Eagles won last year's only meeting, 4-3 in double overtime.

The offense continues to be led by junior Rasmus Arousell, who has five goals on the year and 12 points. He ranks ninth in the league in goals and 10th in total points.

Gardner-Webb enters the contest having lost five in a row, all by one goal. The Runnin' Bulldogs are 3-10 overall and 1-4 in the league. Their lone Big South win came on Sept. 24 at home against Campbell, 2-1.

Ali Al-Gashamy leads the Runnin' Bulldogs offense with 17 points (7g, 3a) while Severin Soerlie has 10 points (3g, 4a). Matthew Swan has been in goal for 12 of the team's 13 games with 11 starts.
