RADFORD, VA—Winthrop men's soccer fell 2-0 at Radford, Saturday evening in Big South Conference action.
The loss is the fifth straight for the Eagles, who fall to 3-8-1 on the year and 0-4 in the Big South. Radford remains undefeated in the Big South at 4-0 and is now 10-2-1 on the year. Winthrop will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 19 when it welcomes High Point to Eagle Field at 7 p.m.
Radford opened the scoring in the 15
th minute, which was the only goal of the first half. Jakob Srandsater played a ball wide to Bismark Amofah, who served a ball in front of goal about 10 yards out and Nick Mayhugh struck it first time into the lower right corner of the goal for his first of the season. Strandsater gave the Highlanders insurance in the 70
th minute when he made the Eagles pay for not clearing the ball when they had the opportunity. After a couple of failed clearances by the Eagles, Strandsater received a pass just inside the box and fired a shot into the left side of the goal.
There weren't a lot of shots in the contest as Radford finished with a 6-3 advantage. The Eagles only tested Altor Pouseu Blanco once in the match, which came on a shot by
Rasmus Arousell in the 67
th minute but Pouseu Blanco made the save as he recorded his sixth shutout of the season.
