ROCK HILL, SC – Sammie-Jo Ah-Hong tallied a career-high 16 kills Wednesday as the Winthrop volleyball team swept past NC Central, snapping a four-match losing skid.

Winthrop (9-12) jumped out to a big lead in the opening set, leading by as much as 10 at 17-7.  NC Central went on a 7-1 run to get within four at 18-14, but couldn't keep the momentum going as Winthrop took the first set 25-15.

The second set was a much tighter affair as Winthrop held only a slim lead at 13-11.  Winthrop then limited NC Central to only three more points, closing the set on a 12-3 run to win 25-14.

NC Central (3-11) played Winthrop very close at the beginning of the third set and led 6-5, but went on a quick 6-0 run, taking an 11-6 lead and never looked back.  Winthrop took the third set 25-13.

Ah-Hong finished with 16 kills and only four errors for a .414 attack percentage.  Emma Weakland hit .600 for the match with 12 kills.  Brianna Gray added seven kills to go along with four blocks.  Mallary McFadden led the Eagles with 16 digs.

Winthrop will return to the court for conference play this weekend as the Eagles travel to UNC Asheville Friday and Presbyterian Saturday.
