ASHEVILLE, NC – The Winthrop volleyball team dropped a Big South contest 3-1 Friday evening on the road to the UNC Asheville Bulldogs.
Winthrop (9-13, 0-6) dropped the first set after Asheville (8-10, 2-5) used a 7-0 run to turn a 3-3 tie into a 10-3 advantage. The Eagles couldn't recover, falling 25-22. The Eagles came out victorious in the second set by using a big run of their own.
The Eagles couldn't continue their momentum as they dropped the third and fourth sets 25-20 and 25-21 respectively.
Emma Weakland led the Eagles with 10 kills while Sammie-Jo Ah-Hong added nine in the loss. Siani Yamaguchi recorded a double-double with 18 assists and 15 digs.
Winthrop will continue on the road Saturday when the Eagles visit Presbyterian for a 4 p.m. contest against the Blue Hose.
