Brad Kaczka went 2-3 and scored the go ahead run to push the No. 3 Winthrop baseball team past No. 6 Campbell 2-1 in the Big South Conference Tournament sponsored by Hardee's and Enterprise Rent-A-Car on Thursday afternoon. The Eagles will now play top seeded Radford on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m.
The win was Winthrop's 40
th of the year and is the first time the Eagles have hit this milestone since 2006.
Josh Strong earned the win for the Eagles, going six innings and allowing one run on six hits. Reliever
Joey Strain closed out the game and held the Camels to just one hit in the final three innings to get his ninth save of the year. Grant Yost took the loss, surrendering two runs on six hits in seven innings.
Cedric Mullin put the Camels on top in the first inning, scoring from third on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Leady after singling and advancing to third on a throwing error by
Babe Thomas.
Tyler Asbill tied it up in the bottom half of the first on a single by
Brad Kaczka after doubling down the left field line.
The Eagles took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third as Kaczka scored on a ground out by
Anthony Paulsen after tripling in to the right field corner.
