ROCK HILL, SC- The Winthrop baseball team will conclude a six- game road slate on Tuesday as it takes on the Charlotte 49ers at 6:00 p.m.
The Eagles (23-14) have been very successful in non-conference action this season, going 19-6 against these opponents including wins against South Carolina and Clemson. The Eagles have four hitters averaging over .300 on the year, led by
Roger Gonzalez (.359) and
Anthony Paulsen (.352). Against non-conference opponents, the Eagles average .297 with 10 home runs and 155 RBI. The Winthrop pitching staff has also been effective, compiling an ERA of 3.00 against teams outside the Big South.
Charlotte (13-16) has dropped three of its last five games, including losing two out of three to Conference USA opponent Marshall over the weekend. The 49ers are 5-5 against non-conference opponents, with their last win coming against Presbyterian on March 18. Freshman Brett Netzer leads the Charlotte offense in batting average (.312), runs (16), hits (34) and triples (3) and is second in RBI with 17. The 49ers have combined for just 125 runs on 236 hits while the pitching staff has allowed 181 runs on 303 hits.
 Charlotte's head coach is Loren Hibbs, who is in his 23
rd season of his tenure and has compiled an overall record of 701-557-4.
