RADFORD, VA- After jumping to a 2-0 lead, Radford scored three unanswered runs to edge out the Winthrop baseball team 3-2 on Friday night.

John Menken and Kyle Edwards registered the two RBI for the Eagles, going 1-4 and 1-2, respectively.

Sam Kmiec took the loss for Winthrop, allowing three runs on eleven hits in seven innings. Joey Strain closed out the game and held the Highlanders to one hit in the eighth. Michael Boyle earned the win, giving up two runs on five hits in 7.1 innings.

The Eagles took a 2-0 in the top of the fourth inning. With two outs, Menken hit a solo home run to right field, his third of the week. Brad Kaczka then singled and moved to third on a single by Babe Thomas. Mark Lowrie was hit by a pitch to load the bases after Thomas stole second and Kaczka came home on a walk by Edwards.

Radford answered right back with a three- run fourth inning. Catcher Josh Reavis led off the inning with a single through the left side and advanced to third after stealing second and advancing on a throwing error by Roger Gonzalez. Reavis scored on a double to right field by Hunter Higgerson before Higgerson was caught stealing third. Aaron Scoville and Danny Hrbek then hit back to back singles and both runners crossed the plate on a triple to centerfield by Brad Keen.

Winthrop looked to rally in the ninth inning as back to back singles put a runner on third with one out but reliever Ryan Meisinger struck out the final two batters to clinch the victory.

The series continues on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at the Radford University Baseball Stadium.
