Eagles Continue West-Coast Swing Wednesday Evening Against San Diego State

ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop lacrosse team continues its west coast swing Wednesday evening, taking on the San Diego State Aztecs, looking to extend its winning streak to seven games.

The Eagles go into Wednesday's 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT contest with a 7-1 overall record having won their last six straight.  Winthrop is coming off a 17-6 victory over Fresno State on Sunday.

Winthrop boasts one of the highest scoring offenses in Division I, averaging 16.25 goals per game which leads the conference by more than four goals per game and ranks them fifth in the NCAA.  The Eagles are out-scoring their opponents by nearly eight goals per game which also leads the Big South and is fifth in the country.

Senior Jenna Kasmarik is a big reason for the scoring output of the Eagles as she leads the Big South and is tops in the country in goals scored and goals per game with 37 and 5.29 respectively. 

In addition to scoring, the Eagles are getting solid production across their lineup.  Junior Shannon Gallagher is second in the conference and 13th in Division I in caused turnovers, averaging 2.13 per game.  Fellow junior Hayley Krause has been strong on the draw for the Eagles as Winthrop is fifth in the country in draw controls and Krause is 13th individually.  Freshman Katherine Judge leads the Big South and is sixth in the NCAA in ground balls, averaging 3.43 per contest.

San Diego state enters Wednesday's game with a 5-2 overall record, having one their last five, after starting the season 0-2.  The Aztecs last beat California 20-14 Sunday afternoon.

Senior Christina Ricciardulli leads the Aztecs with 16 goals this season but is followed closely by junior Sophie Koubek and sophomore Alex Watson who have 13 and 10 goals respectively. 

San Diego State shares the ball well as more than 44 percent of their 95 goals this season have been assisted.  Seniors Lauren Maack and Michaela Jarvis each lead the team with 10 assists this season.

Sophomore Katrina Reeves is the primary goalie for San Diego State as she has started all seven games for the squad.  She sports a .412 save percentage while allowing just over 12 goals per game.

Following Wednesday's contest, the Eagles will have an eight-day break before heading to Cincinnati on Friday, March 27 to face the Bearcats.
