ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop lacrosse team will start a stretch of six-straight home contests Friday evening, hosting the national-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes at 6 p.m. at Eagle Field.

The Eagles enter Friday's contest with a 1-0 record, coming off an 18-5 victory over Kennesaw State Tuesday afternoon.  Ohio State, the 12-ranked team in the country enters with a 2-0 record with victories over Detroit and Binghamton.

Winthrop got solid contributions across the lineup Tuesday afternoon as eight different Eagles put goals in the net.  Freshman Katie Clark led the way with five points on four goals and one assist.  Junior Abigail Blevins also netted four goals while junior Shannon Gallagher tallied two goals and two assists.

Freshman Katherine Judge set a single-game record, picking up seven ground balls and the team set a record with 30 total ground balls.  Freshman goalie Alaina Girani picked up her first collegiate victory, allowing five goals and making five saves.

Ohio State has out-scored its competition 37-9 through two games this season.  Senior Katie Chase leads the Buckeyes with 10 goals this season while fellow senior Jackie Cifarelli has totaled 10 points on three goals and seven assists.  Senior goalie Tori DeScenza has earned both results this season, allowing only two goals in 72 minutes of action.

Winthrop and Ohio State met last year in Columbus as the Buckeyes defeated the Eagles 17-8.  Jenna Kasmarik scored four goals in her first game as an Eagle.

Following Friday's contest the Eagles will return to the field on Friday, February 20 at 6 p.m. against George Mason.
