ROCK HILL, SC—The Winthrop men's soccer team returns to the pitch after a 10-day layoff as it heads to Boiling Springs, NC to take on Gardner-Webb, Wednesday evening at Greene-Harbison Stadium.

LAST MATCH
The Eagles opened up Big South play with a 2-1 double overtime victory at Liberty as senior Magnus Thorsson netted the golden goal off a free kick in the 107^th minute. Winthrop tied a season-high 24 shots with a season-best 13 on frame. Liberty scored in the 3^rd minute to grab the early lead but just shy of 10 minutes later junior Max Hasenstab scored the equalizer and his third of the season. Fabian Broich made two big saves in the 79^th minute to keep the score tied at 1-1 and keeping the Eagles in the game.

WHO TO WATCH
Hasenstab scored against Liberty after missing the previous game against Appalachian State as he has three goals in seven games this season. In his last three games played, Hasenstab has scored a goal and has a total of 13 shots (seven on goal) in that span. After scored six goals in the first six games of the season, Jordi Lluch has been held without a point in the last two games (3 shots total). Hasenstab ranks first in the league in shots per game and 5^th nationally. Lluch ranks 3^rd in the Big South in goals and points while ranking 21^st nationally in goals and 53^rd in points.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
The Eagles are looking to start 2-0 in league play for the second straight season. Winthrop has won its first conference road game the three seasons.
Offensively the Eagles are now averaging 1.75 goals per game (2.5 over the last four games) while allowing 2.12. Senior goalkeeper Fabian Broich returned from injury against Appalachian State and has allowed one goal in the last 196 minutes and 42 seconds. The lone goal was an absolute crack from the top of the box into the right corner of the goal from Liberty's Kyle Carr.

ABOUT OPPONENT
The Runnin' Bulldogs enter the game with a 1-8 mark overall and are 0-1 in the Big South. Gardner-Webb opened league play on Sept. 25 at fifth-ranked Coastal Carolina, falling 4-0. Gardner-Webb is in the midst of a seven-game losing streak. Sami Jilla leads the team with six points (2 goals) while Filipe Conceicao and Marvin Mendy each have five points (2g, 1a each). Hunter Frey also has two goals on the year as the team has nine different goal scorers on the season.
William Liles and Matthew Swan have pretty much split equal time in goal for the Runnin' Bulldogs this season. Each has played five games and nearly the same amount of minutes. Liles is 1-3 with a 3.23 goals against average while Swan is 0-5 with a 3.44 goals against average.

SERIES HISTORY
This will mark the 21^st meeting between Winthrop and Gardner-Webb with the Eagles holding a 14-4-2 lead in the all-time series and 5-1-1 in Big South league games. The teams have alternated wins over the last seven meetings with the Eagles winning 3-1 in Rock Hill last season. Winthrop has dropped its last two trips to Greene-Harbison Stadium.
