Men's Soccer Wins Sixth Straight With 4-0 Win Over Presbyterian College Wednesday Afternoon

Thorsson Nets 3rd Game-Winning Goal Of 2015

ROCK HILL, SC—Four different players scored first half goals to lead Winthrop men's soccer to a 4-0 victory over Presbyterian College, Wednesday afternoon at Eagle Field in Big South Conference action.

The victory extends the Eagles win streak to six games as they improve to 7-5 overall and remain unbeaten in league play at 5-0. The Blue Hose fall to 0-12-1 on the year and 0-5-1 in the Big South.

"It was good to pick up three points today," said Winthrop head coach Rich Posipanko, who picked up his 388th victory. "We also had the opportunity to play everyone on the roster that was healthy."

Winthrop netted an early goal as Magnus Thorsson scored his fourth goal of the season and third game-winner when he was in the right place at the right time. Center back Jordi Lluch was in the box and collected a free ball as he turned and fired a shot that was turned away by PC goalkeeper Johnny Archer but the save went across toward Thorsson who was there to smash it home for a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute.

The Eagles made it 2-0 in the 24th minute on a goal by Lluch when he headed home a Max Hasenstab corner kick and then stretch the lead to 3-0 a minute and 20 seconds later on Hasenstab's eighth of the season. Charles Coulson scored the fourth goal of the day in the 38th minute as the goal was set up with consecutive passes from Marco Gatzke and Patrick Barnes. For Hasenstab, it was the sixth straight game he's scored a goal.

Senior Fabian Broich made three saves to earn his third shutout of the season and second in three games as he improve to 7-1 on the year. Archer finished with one save in the game and Connor Behrend played the final 19:43 of the game and also finished with one save.
