Altman's Sacrifice Fly Lifts Baseball Past VMI 1-0

Box Score ROCK HILL, SC- Clay Altman hit a bases loaded sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning to allow T.J. Olesczuk to score the game winner and lift the Winthrop baseball team past VMI 1-0 Friday night at The Winthrop Ballpark. The Eagles snap a five game losing streak to improve to 19-26 and 10-9 in Big South action while VMI moves to 22-17, and 9-10 in the conference play.

Sam Kmiec pitched his fourth complete game this season and held VMI to just five hits while his counterpart Reed Garrett gave up one run on six hits.

Olesczuk led off the ninth inning with a hammer to centerfield which he turned into a triple. VMI then intentionally walked Babe Thomas and John Menken before Altman hit the game winner to centerfield.

Winthrop and VMI will play the second game of their weekend series Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at The Winthrop Ballpark.
