ROCK HILL, SC- The Winthrop baseball team returns home to host VMI in a three game conference series this weekend at the Winthrop Ballpark. Friday night's game is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., Saturday's for 3:00 p.m. and Sunday's for 1:00 p.m. Friday's game will be the 35th match-up between the two teams with Winthrop leading the all-time series 24-10.
Winthrop (18-26, 9-9) is trying to snap a five game losing streak heading into this weekend's series. The Eagles' currently sit second in the Big South South Division and is tied for fifth with VMI in the overall standings. T.J. Olesczuk leads the Eagles' offense batting .408 on the year with 50 hits and 21 RBIs. Olesczuk also leads the conference in individual batting, is fifteenth in the nation in batting average and tied for second in the Big South for doubles (15).
VMI (22-16,9-9) is coming off a 6-1 win over James Madison Tuesday night after losing their conference series with Longwood 2-1. Brandon Angus is the only one of the Keydets' hitters batting over .300 (.362). Jordan Tarsovich is a close second in hits (38) and leads the team in doubles (12) and runs (27) with Eric Mayers having a team high 23 RBIs.
Head coach Marlin Ikenberry is in his 11th season at his alma mater where he has earned a 279-300-1 overall record.
