ROCK HILL, SC—Winthrop softball begins a seven-game home stand to wrap-up the regular season beginning with a non-conference doubleheader with Western Carolina, Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m.
The Eagles and Catamounts meet for the second and third time this season as the first meeting on Feb. 23 in Spartanburg, SC saw Western Carolina win 4-1.
Winthrop is 24-21 overall entering the game and winners of five of the last seven games. Western Carolina comes into the game with a 17-25 mark but has not played since April 13 with its last two doubleheaders being canceled due to weather. The Catamounts are coming off a 9-2 loss at UNC Greensboro in the final game of a three-game series but have won four of their last five games.
The all-time series favors the Eagles 6-3 with Western Carolina having won two of the last three meetings.
This past weekend the Eagles captured a 2-1 series win at Liberty and pounded out a season-high 23 runs in a conference series. Winthrop hit seven home runs and 11 extra base hits total in three games.
