Baseball Bounces Back With 6-4 Win Over Presbyterian Sunday Afternoon

Box Score ROCK HILL, SC- A five run sixth inning helped push the Winthrop baseball team past Presbyterian College 6-4 Sunday afternoon. With the win the Eagles move to 18-21and 9-6 in the Big South while the Blue Hose drop to 12-23-1 and 5-10 in conference play.

Joey Strain got his fifth win of the season giving up one run on six hits after coming to relieve starter Josh Strong. Presbyterian's Ethan Wortkoetter took the loss giving up three runs on one hit after relieving Trey Hayes who have up three runs on four hits.

After five innings, Presbyterian held a 3-1 lead over the Eagles with Babe Thomas scoring the lone run in the third inning after John Menken grounded out.

Menken and Cody Dolan both were hit by pitches to lead off the sixth inning followed by Chad Smith reaching on a fielder error that advanced Dolan to third and allowed Menken to score. Dolan scored on a double by Brad Kaczka and Smith crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly from Zac Goodno that allowed Kaczka to advance. Michael Patrick was walked, advanced as Babe Thomas was hit by a pitch, and he and Kaczka scored on a wild pitch to bring the score to 6-3.

The Blue Hose got one back in the bottom of the sixth inning as Derek Long hit an RBI single to bring Nate Chong home and the final score to 6-4.

The Eagles return to action on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. to take on Western Carolina at The Winthrop Ballpark.
