Baseball Falls to Vanderbilt 5-0

The Winthrop baseball team lost the second game of its three game weekend series with Vanderbilt 5-0 Saturday afternoon in Nashville.

The Eagles fall to 6-8 on the year while extending their losing streak to five, as 8th ranked Vanderbilt moves to 14-2 this season and improves its winning streak to seven games.

Senior TJ Olesczuk went two for three on the day, with Brad Kazcka also getting two hits while Babe Thomas registered one.

Vanderbilt's Bryan Reynolds went four for five on the night, including an RBI single, and scored three runs to help lead the Commodores to victory. Left handed pitcher Jared Miller held the Eagles to six straight scoreless innings, giving up only five hits, and earning the win for Vanderbilt.

RHP Joey Strain took the loss for the Eagles and gave up all five runs in his six innings, while reliever Matt Crohan gave up one hit. 

Vanderbilt scored two runs in each of the first two innings, while picking up its final run late in the seventh inning.

The Eagles' final game in Nashville will be played tomorrow at 2:00 p.m
