ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop lacrosse team will host the St. Francis Red Flash Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Eagle Field in search of back-to-back victories.
The Eagles, who have had more than a week off, enter the match with a 1-2 record after downing George Mason on February 23. St. Francis is 0-2, dropping contests to Elon and Campbell in the last week. The two teams met last year in Rock Hill with Winthrop picking up a 13-9 victory.
Junior transfer Jenna Kasmarik leads the Eagles with 10 goals and is tied for third in the conference with 3.33 goals per game. Kasmarik also leads the team and is second in the Big South in draw controls with 14 through three contests.
Sophomore Camille King has been strong in goal for Winthrop as she made big saves late in the game against George Mason to preserve the victory. King has totaled 29 saves this season with a 12.67 goals against average, ranking her fourth in the conference.
St. Francis, who only began its season on March 1, has been led by Danielle Conwell who has scored six goals and notched two assists through two games. Rachel Larson also has four goals while five others have one goal each.
In goal for the Red Flash is sophomore Savannah Shores who has played every minute in the team's two contests. She has allowed just over 14 goals per game and has a total of 26 saves.
Winthrop will have a quick turn around after Wednesday as the Eagles will host Cincinnati on Friday at 6 p.m. at Eagle Field.
