Lacrosse Hits The Road For Games At Michigan Thursday, Marquette Sunday

ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop lacrosse team will make a trip up north this week with road games at Michigan on Thursday and Marquette on Sunday.

The Eagles are coming off a 16-8 loss to the Denver Pioneers at home on Monday afternoon.  Winthrop is currently 2-5 and looking to snap a three-game losing skid.

Junior Jenna Kasmarik continues to lead the Eagles offensively with 25 goals and is tied for the team lead in draw controls with 26.  Sophomore Shannon Gallagher has netted 12 goals and assisted on eight others.  Sophomore Hayley Krause is tied with Kasmarik for the team lead in draw controls with 26.

The 7 p.m. Thursday night contest against Michigan will be played in the 109,000-seat Michigan Stadium.  Michigan is in its first year with a women's lacrosse program and the Wolverines are currently 0-6 and have played three nationally-ranked teams this season.

Michigan has scored only 6.5 goals per game this season while allowing nearly 18.  Freshman Anna Schueler leads the team with eight goals while fellow freshman Jess Angerman has netted seven goals and assisted on six others.  Freshman Allison Silber has played every minute for the Wolverines and averages just shy of 10 saves per game.

After Ann Arbor, the Eagles will head to Milwaukee, WI for a 1 p.m. contest against the Marquette Golden Eagles on Sunday.

Marquette is currently 3-4 overall and will play a mid-week game against Notre Dame on Wednesday.  Marquette defeated Michigan 12-10 and Coastal Carolina 10-7 earlier this season.

Sophomore Hayley Baas and freshman Julianna Shearer lead the Golden Eagles with 12 goals each.  Freshman Amanda Bochniak leads the team with 10 assists.  Sophomore Sarah Priem plays the majority of minutes in net and has earned each of the team's decisions.  She has allowed nearly 14 goals per game this season while making 5.7 saves per contest.

Following the road trip, the Eagles will return home on Saturday, March 29 to host the Jacksonville Dolphins at 1 p.m. at Eagle Field.
