Eagle Lacrosse Heads to Nationally Ranked Florida For Wednesday Evening Showdown With Gators

ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop lacrosse team heads to Gainesville, FL Wednesday to take on the No. 4 nationally ranked Florida Gators at 6:30 p.m.

The Eagles enter the contest with a 2-3 record after dropping a heart-breaking overtime contest to Cincinnati Friday evening.

Junior Jenna Kasmarik earned her second Big South Offensive Player of the Week award for her nine-goal performance last week and leads the Eagles with 19 goals and also leads in draw controls with 25.

Sophomore Shannon Gallagher had a solid game against St. Francis last Wednesday where she totaled six goals and one assist, bringing her season total to eight goals.  Sophomore Hayley Krause has continued to be strong on draw controls, totaling 17 this season in addition to her six goals and two assists.

The Gators have won seven straight games after dropping their season opener to North Carolina, the top ranked team in the country.  Florida is coming off a 20-4 victory over Michigan on Saturday.

Florida's Shannon Gilroy leads the country in goals with 35 and is second in total points with 46.  Sammi Burgess is second on the team with 17 goals.  As a team, the Gators are the 4th ranked team in the country, scoring just shy of 17 goals per game.  Defensively, Florida has allowed an average of eight goals per contest.

Following Florida, the Eagles will host Denver, who has been nationally ranked this year, on Monday at 4 p.m. at Eagle Field.
