Eagles Three-Game Winning Streak Snapped with 4-0 Loss to Jacksonville

Jacksonville, FL- The Winthrop baseball team saw its three-game winning streak snapped by Jacksonville in a 4-0 loss on Saturday afternoon at Sessions Stadium..

The loss drops the Eagles to 6-4 on the year, while the Dolphins snapped a five-game losing streak and improves to 2-7 as they evened the series at one-game apiece. The two teams will play the rubber game on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Alex McRae held the Eagles offense at bay by throwing a five-hit complete game shutout while striking out a career best 11 hitters. Winthrop had just one baserunner reach second base in the game with that being on a double by TJ Olesczuk who collected two of Winthrop's five hits. The victory evened the weekend series at one game apiece with the rubber match coming on Sunday at 1:00 pm.

Winthrop right-hander Joey Strain took his first loss of the season after two wins as he gave up three runs on eight hits in seven innings. Southpaw Matt Crohan came in to relieve Strain in the eighth and gave up one run on one hit.

Connor Marabell gave McRae all the run support he would need with a sacrifice fly in the third, but the Dolphins key hit came in the seventh. Holding onto a 1-0 lead, Scott Schaub gave Jacksonville the cushion it was needing when he ripped a 1-2, two-out pitch to center field scoring two more runs. Michael Babb gave the Dolphins another run in the eighth as he reached on a single and stole second and third before scoring on a passed ball. .
