Eagles Head to George Mason Sunday In Search of First Victory

ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop lacrosse team heads to Fairfax, VA Sunday to take on the George Mason Patriots as the Eagles look for their first victory of 2014.

Winthrop enters Sunday's contest with a 0-2 mark after dropping at 15-11 decision to San Diego State on Monday.  George Mason will play its first game of the year on Friday against UC Davis after its Wednesday contest against Longwood was postponed.

Junior transfer Jenna Kasmarik has been an offensive spark for the Eagles as she has scored four goals in each of Winthrop's first two contests.  She has also secured 10 draw controls.  Sophomores Hayley Krause and Logan McCarthy have each scored three goals.

Sophomore goalie Camille King has faced a barrage of shots so far this season, recording 23 total saves.  She has also picked up seven ground balls.

George Mason returns its second-leading scorer from last season, Rachel Obregon.  Obregon totaled 40 points last season on 34 goals and six assists.  The Patriots do not rely heavily on goal helpers as they totaled only 29 assists on 146 goals last season.

George Mason will look to start a sophomore in goal, Caroline Brouse.  Brouse split time in net last season, finishing with a 3-5 record.  She allowed 11.7 goals per game in her appearances.

Following Sunday's contest, the Eagles will have more than a week off before they host St. Francis at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5.
