With the win, the Lady Eagles improve to 6-7-1 and 2-3-1 in the Big South while the Bucs fall to 5-9-1 overall and 1-4-1 in conference action.
The Eagles almost went down just 40 seconds into the game off a shot from Chelsea Phillips but
Amelia Henderson was able to stretch out and keep the ball out of the net.
Krystyna Freda had the next opportunity and scored as she collected a free ball in the box and slotted it low past goalkeeper Caitlin Cody.
Eden Ralph doubled the lead in the 48
th minute hitting a one touch volley into the net as the Bucs defense failed to clear a Freda corner kick.
Freda had two opportunities to add on to the lead in the second half but couldn't convert off of two break aways, first hitting her shot wide and then getting denied with a save Cody.
CSU's Lydia Frierson got one back in the 67
th minute as she scored on a wide open net after Henderson came out but mistimed her approached and Frierson went by her.
Winthrop seemed to have put the game away with an insurance goal from
Samantha Prytulak who ripped a shot from 15 yards out after a pass from
Grace Radler.
The Bucs would not go down without a fight, making the game 3-2 with 15 minutes left as Anna Sells' head connected on a free kick from Emma Faubert and hit it just out of reach of Henderson.
The Lady Eagles travel to Buies Creek to take on Campbell on Saturday. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
