ROCK HILL, SC-
The Winthrop women's soccer team suffered a 3-0 loss at home to Big South opponent Longwood Saturday afternoon.

The loss broke an 11-match regular season unbeaten streak at home and brings the Lady Eagles to 5-2-1, with a 1-1 conference record. Longwood moves to 3-5-1 on the year and 2-0 in conference play.

The game started with Longwood's foot on the pedal, creating an opportunity inside the box just seconds into the game. The Lancers went up 1-0 just 13 minutes into the game after freshman Amanda Spencer buried a loose ball inside the box off a corner kick.  Just two minutes later, Longwood increased the lead to 2-0 with a goal by senior Kelsey Pardue.  Pardue tried to finish a pass from Kelsey McDonald and collided with defender Megan Pritts, but managed to get enough of a touch to put it past goalkeeper Amelia Henderson.

The second half looked promising for Winthrop as junior Krystyna Freda tried to get on the end of a threw ball from Kelly Clark, but failed to put the ball away. Longwood answered back with some combination play inside the box from Samantha Phillips and Bridget Bergquist which resulted in a shot from Bergquist hitting the crossbar. Longwood freshman D'Orazio beat her defender down the sidelines and whipped in a cross close to goal, forcing the Winthrop defense to try and clear the ball. The ball was mishit and ended up in the back of the net bringing the score to 3-0 with 25:55 left in the game. The last opportunity for the Lady Eagles came in the 71st minute when Devin Puckett put a goal away, but was called offsides.

Amelia Henderson matched her career high with nine saves on 12 shots on goal. Longwood goalkeeper Shelby Hall earned her four shutout of the year and tallied four saves.

The Lady Eagles will travel to take on the 2012 Big South regular season champions High Point next Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
