ROCK HILL, SC—
After a six-day break without games, Winthrop softball is back in action Wednesday afternoon as it hosts Appalachian State in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. The two games were originally scheduled to be played in Boone, NC but moved to Rock Hill due to the forecast rain and snow showers.

Winthrop was last in action on Mar. 13 in Cullowhee, NC when it split a doubleheader with Western Carolina and enters Wednesday's action at 12-13 with four wins in the last six games. Appalachian State comes in with a 10-8 record and winners of five straight after sweeping a doubleheader from Charleston Southern on Mar. 13 and a three-game series against Samford.

The Eagles and Mountaineers meet for the 17th and 18th time in history as the Eagles hold a 10-6 advantage all-time. It's been since May 4, 2007 since the two teams have squared off as Winthrop swept a doubleheader in Rock Hill.

Junior McKenzi Corn continues to bat over .400 as she has a team-best batting average of .405 and is second on the team in runs scored with 18. She set a personal best for RBI in a single season after driving in a run in the Eagles last game, an 8-7 loss at Western Carolina in the second game of a doubleheader. Corn has a base hit in six of her last eight games and is 11-for-24 in that span with nine runs and has scored a run in seven of the last eight games.

Senior Chelsey Schoenfeldt is also enjoying one of her most productive seasons offensively as the two-time All-Big South selection leads the team in runs (19), home runs (7) and RBI (28). It's the most runs Schoenfeldt has scored in a single-season in her career and her home run total ties a personal best she set in 2011 and 2012. She is just four RBI shy of tying her single-season best of 32, set in 2012. She's ranked 46th nationally in RBI per game.

Also producing her best offensive season in her career is senior Kathryn Eberlin, who has four home runs and a career-best 14 RBI through 25 games. Eberlin's four home runs ties last season's single-season best and has four multi-RBI games. She is second on the team with seven two-out RBI.

As a team the Eagles are ranked 23rd nationally in home runs per game at 1.08 per game. The team has 27 home runs through 25 games, but has also yielded 31 home runs of its own.

Sutton Watson leads the way for the pitching staff with an 8-8 mark and a 3.77 earned run average. Watson started off the season 6-3, but has lost four of her last six starts and suffered a loss in relief in the team's last game (8-7 loss at Western Carolina). She's more than doubled the innings pitched of the next player on the team with 85.1. Freshman Dallas King has pitched 38 innings followed by junior Sara Allen with 30.2. King is 2-1 on the year with 10 appearances and four starts while Allen is 2-2 with five starts and 13 appearances.

Appalachian State is a solid offensive team and has outscored its opponents 33-16 during its five-game win streak. Led by senior outfielder Allie Cashion (.391) and junior first baseman Lindsay Loudermilk (.345), the Mountaineers post a team batting average of .270. Cashion not only has a team-best .391 average but she's also ranked 14th nationally with doubles per game as she has six in 14 games played. Loudermilk leads the team in RBI with 17.

The pitching staff is young and is led by a duo of sophomore Shivaun Landeros and freshman Alissa Schoelkopf. Landeros is 4-3 with a 3.39 ERA with 18 strikeouts and 27 walks in 53.2 innings. Schoelkopf is 6-4 with a 3.68 ERA with 58 strikeouts and 41 walks in 64.2 innings.

The Eagles and Mountaineers have a couple of common opponents on the year as Appalachian State fell 9-3 to Alabama and took a series at Western Carolina, 2-1 with a 6-1 and 5-4 wins over the Catamounts.
