ROCK HILL, SC- Despite an equalizing goal from junior
Grace Radler, the Winthrop women's soccer team fell to Radford Saturday afternoon. Winthrop fell to 11-4-1, 7-3 Big South while Radford remains atop the Big South rankings with a 13-2-1, 9-1 Big South record.
The teams both had five shots on goal but Radford got on the board first when Asyia Mitchell was brought down by senior
Megan Pritts inside the 18 yard box. The resulting penalty kick was taken by Rachel Conway and put past goalkeeper
Amelia Henderson into the left side of the net. Junior
Megan David almost equalized in the final seconds of the first half, but her header off a free kick from
Krystyna Freda was just wide of the net.
Winthrop finally got its equalizer from Radler after getting her head on the end of a cross from sophomore
Taylor Coleman and putting it past Radford goalkeeper Che' Brown. Radford picked up steam after the goal, outshooting Winthrop 6-0 in the 15 minutes after the goal and finally getting a goal in the 64
th minute. Freshman Melanie Priestley bent a ball into the side netting from 20 yards out after collecting a blocked shot from teammate Julie Ruh'e. Winthrop only had one shot for the rest of the game coming from Freda in the 72
nd minute. Henderson made three saves on the night while Brown earned four.
Winthrop will have its final regular season game next Tuesday night at home against Presbyterian College at 6:00 p.m.
