ROCK HILL, SC—
Coming off a double-header loss on Wednesday, the Winthrop softball team gets an opportunity to bounce back quickly as it heads to Clinton, SC Friday afternoon to start a three-game series with Presbyterian College.

The series will begin Friday at 1 p.m. with a double-header and conclude on Saturday with a single game at 1 p.m. All three games are scheduled to be video streamed on the Big South Network.

Winthrop (13-24, 2-7 Big South) dropped both games at Campbell on Wednesday as it lost all three games in the series. The Eagles need to take the series with the Blue Hose to work their way back to the middle of the standings.

The Eagles scored just three runs on eight hits while allowing 14 runs on 18 hits to the Camels. In the 10-1 loss, Campbell scored all 10 runs on 11 hits. Despite the blowout in game two, nine of the last 11 games for the Eagles have been decided by two runs or less. The team is 2-9 in that stretch and now 11-11 on the year in games decided by two or fewer runs. The loss in game one was just the third time this season Winthrop has dropped a game when leading after five innings.

Chelsey Schoenfeldt extended her streak of consecutive games reaching base as she homered in the first game to go along with two hits and walked in game two. She's batting a team-high .379 with 12 runs, six doubles, five homers and 24 RBI. Her on-base percentage of .463 is also tops on the team.

Senior Megan Chapman will look to get back to form as she has been solid defensively since returning from her leg injury, but is just 2-for-13 since returning at the beginning of the Liberty series. Prior to her injury, Chapman was batting .345 and is now down to .320 on the season, second on the team. Chapman has just one error in the last 25 games and none in the last nine games.

Winthrop has fallen behind its opponents in four straight games in the first inning and 17 times this season.

Over the last five games, the Eagles pitching is sporting a 4.34 ERA as team's are scoring four runs per game while the offense is averaging 2.1. Sophomore Natalie Becker is 2-2 in that stretch with a 2.51 ERA with 12 walks and 24 strikeouts in 22.1 innings. Schoenfeldt has been struggling lately as she's 0-1 with a 6.68 ERA in her last three appearances with eight runs in 7.1 innings.

The Blue Hose enter the series with a 10-20 overall record and a 2-5 mark in the Big South. The two wins in league play came against Charleston Southern on the road last weekend as Presbyterian College took the series.

Freshman Shelby Petik leads the Blue Hose offensively with a .301 average with 13 runs, six doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI. She's got an on-base percentage of .414 with 12 walks to 10 strikeouts. Junior Cat Tarvin has the second best average at .286 with 10 runs and is 8-for-8 on the bases. Junior Morgan Durham is batting .232 on the year but leads the team with 17 runs, three homers and 13 RBI. She's also 10-for-11 on the bases.
In the circle for the Blue Hose on the weekend should be senior Leslie Hensley and freshman Kensley Loudermelk, who have accounted for 26 of the 30 starts on the year. Hensley is 6-11 on the year with a 2.69 ERA with 56 strikeouts to 13 walks in 106.2 innings. Loudermelk is 4-4 on the year with a 3.17 ERA with 42 strikeouts and 35 walks in 57.1 innings.

In the series at Charleston Southern, the Blue Hose allowed just five runs in the three games. Last season the Eagles were swept by Presbyterian College.
