ROCK HILL, SC—
After eight days off and final exams, the Winthrop softball team looks to get back into the swing of things as it hosts a doubleheader with Charlotte, Tuesday evening at Terry Field.

First pitch for the doubleheader has been moved from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The Eagles hope the time off will get them turned around and end the current five-game losing streak in which the team has batted just .217 and scored a total of five runs.

Winthrop is 15-33 on the year and has lost 12 of its last 14 games, six of them by two runs or less.

The team's earned run average over the last five games is at 3.39 while the team's ERA for most of the season has been over 4.0. Sophomore Sara Allen has a 2.21 ERA in her last two appearances, which included her first start in the circle on April 22 against Radford as she tossed four innings allowing three runs on four hits.

Sophomore Natalie Becker has a 2.90 ERA in her last five appearances (one start) and has 23 strikeouts in 19.1 innings. Junior Chelsey Schoenfeldt has struggled in her last three starts allowing 10 runs in 6.1 innings with an 0-3 record and 6.63 ERA.

Offensively Winthrop has just five runs in the last five games and left a total of 25 runners stranded in that time frame. Kathryn Eberlin and McKenzi Corn each lead the team with four hits in the last five games.

Schoenfeldt, who will have had nine days off prior to the doubleheader with Charlotte after sitting the final game of the Radford series, still leads the team in batting at .364 and has a team-best 26 RBI. However, Schoenfeldt has just two RBI in the last 12 games. She is still two-RBI shy of tying her career-best of 28 achieved in 2011. In the last 10 games, she's batting .280.

Senior Megan Chapman is batting .311 with 18 runs, five RBI and 11 stolen bases. She has no errors in the field in the last 10 games and just one in the last 20. Freshman Kristy Noble has the best average on the team over the last 10 games at .333 with a run and three RBI. Corn has 10 hits, four runs and four RBI in the last 10.

The Eagles face a Charlotte team that is 26-22 on the year and losers of three straight. The 49ers have won seven of their last 10 games and are facing their last non-conference opponent before they finish Atlantic 10 action this weekend at home against Dayton.

The 49ers are an extremely young squad as three of the team's top five batters are freshmen and five starters are freshmen.

Junior Briana Gwaltney leads the team offensively with a .338 average and has 38 runs, 14 home runs and 40 RBI with an on-base percentage of .438.

Freshmen Alex Rogers and Jackie Kleinsmith are second and third in batting average on the team. Rogers is hitting .326 with 32 runs and a team-best .461 on-base percentage. Kleinsmith is batting .385 with 19 runs and 17 RBI. Junior Katie Lang is tied with freshman Samantha Slade for second on the team with 25 RBI.

The top two pitchers on the squad are underclassmen as freshman Lexi Betancourt has a team-best 14 wins and 2.93 ERA. Betancourt is 14-11 on the year with 108 strikeouts to 50 walks in 174.1 innings. Sophomore Katie Watkins is 11-11 on the year with a 4.30 ERA and 109 strikeouts in 128.2 innings and has the most starts at 24.

This will be the third different opponent Charlotte has faced from the Big South as it split a doubleheader with Gardner-Webb and lost very early in the season to Presbyterian College.

Winthrop leads the all-time series with Charlotte, 38-33, but the 49ers swept the doubleheader in 2011 with a 4-2 victory in game one and completed the sweep with a 2-1 victory.
