ATHENS, GA-The Eagles showed resiliency in a tough loss to Tennessee Tech in their 3
rd game of the 9
th Annual Georgia Softball Classic, suffering a 5-4 extra inning loss.

Mark Cooke said, “Tennessee Tech is a great team and this was a great game. This was a character builder for the whole team. Even though we lost, we feel like we got what we wanted out of the game. ”
In the 1
st inning, 
Megan Chapman and 
Chelsey Schoenfeldt combined to manufacture the first of four runs for the Eagles in the game. Chapman drew a leadoff walk, stole second base and Schoenfeldt came through with a double to left center scoring Chapman.
The Tennessee Tech offense was held scoreless by the Eagles' defense and 
Natalie Becker until the 5
th inning when the Golden Eagles scored two runs on three hits and an error in the infield.
In the bottom of the 7
th inning, with their backs against the wall, the Eagles battled back. 
Kristy Noble reached on an error to lead off the inning, representing the tying run. 
Kelsey Ritter pinch-ran for Noble and she advanced to second on a clutch infield single by 
Jenna Harbin. Chapman and Mckenzi Corn both reached base on fielder's choices and 
Kathryn Eberlin walked to load the bases with two outs, bringing up Schoenfeldt. Schoenfeldt worked the count full and drew a walk to score Chapman, tying the score at 2-2. 
Alex White's attempt at a walk-off ended in a ground out to force extra innings.
Chanelle Spalding was placed on second base and after getting the first two batters in the top of the 8
th to fly out and strike out looking, Tennessee Tech's Brittney Spalding hit a two-run homer that put the Golden Eagles back in the lead, 4-2.
The pressure was on the Eagles to keep the game going and they answered in the form of a two-run home run blast to left field by Melanie Andrea. The clutch home run was Andrea's first career home run as an Eagle.
Tennessee Tech got the timely hits it needed and scored the eventual game-winning run on a deep ground ball to Chapman at shortstop from their center fielder Melody Christian.
The Eagles came back with a big a one-out single by Corn advancing 
Teja Durante to third. Eberlin and Schoenfeldt followed her with shots to the outfield but couldn't get them to fall to score the tying run.
The Eagles scored four runs on six hits with one error in the game. Schoenfeldt and Andrea are credited with 2 RBI each. Becker threw all nine innings for the Eagles and had nine strike outs with four walks.
Winthrop's game with the University of Connecticut schedule for 7 p.m. on Saturday was canceled due to rain. Winthrop will be back in action on Sunday at 1 p.m. against 14
th-ranked Georgia.
