ROCK HILL, SC—
The Winthrop men's soccer team looks to end its two-game losing streak as it hosts Liberty, Saturday afternoon in the first of four straight home games.

Winthrop just ended a three-game road stretch in which it lost two of the three games and is now 6-7 overall and 2-3 in the Big South. After suffering one of its worst losses on Oct. 13 at Campbell (L, 5-2) the Eagles followed up with a 1-0 loss at 10th-ranked Coastal Carolina Wednesday night.

Ending the losing streak won't be easy as the Eagles face a Liberty team that historically had a lot of success against Winthrop. In 32 meetings all-time, Liberty leads the series 20-10-2 as each team has stolen the road game in the last two meetings.

Winthrop was shutout on Wednesday for just the second time all season as Winthrop entered the week ranked 17th nationally with 2.08 goals per game. The Eagles were short-handed defensively against the Chanticleers, who were ranked ninth nationally in goals per game but the defense held strong and yielded just one goal. It was the first time in six games Coastal had not scored at least three goals.

Alex Isern had a seven-game point streak broken on Wednesday but he's tied for the team lead with five goals and is leading the team with 16 points. He's currently ranked 15th nationally in assists per game and 42nd in points per game. Achille Obougou, who missed the last game with an injury, also has five goals on the year.

Winthrop will have to continue to battle through injuries and suspensions as Obougou's return is uncertain and Adam Brundle must sit after being issued a red card late in the match at Coastal. Tomas Brennan left the game Wednesday with an injury and his status is up in the air as is the return of defenders Nick Kowalski and Daniel Di Biagio.

Tom Banfield had been a regular in net for the Eagles this season but Enrique Miranda started and played the full 90 minutes in the loss at Coastal Carolina. Either one could go on Saturday.

Liberty is 6-6 on the year but sitting in good position in league play with a 4-1 mark and has won four in a row. The Flames opened up league play on Sept. 1 with a 3-0 win at Longwood and its only loss is to Coastal.

This will be Liberty's third straight road contest as it's battled hard to earn a 2-1 victory at Presbyterian College and 3-2 in overtime at Virginia Military Institute.

On the season, Liberty is averaging 1.17 goals per game and is led by red-shirt junior Kyle Breitmeyer with six goals and an assist (13 points). Junior Sam Duininck and red-shirt senior Greg White each have two goals.

Sophomore Scott Sutarik has seen most of the action in net for the Flames as he sports a 5-4 record on the year with a 1.41 goals against average and three shutouts.
