Softball Opens Big South Action At Presbyterian College Tuesday Afternoon

Winthrop Looks To Extend Winning Streak At PC

ROCK HILL, SC-- Winthrop softball looks to build on its two-game win streak as it heads to Clinton, SC Tuesday afternoon to take on Presbyterian College in a double-header in a Big South Conference opener for both teams.
The first pitch is set for 3 p.m. and the second game of the double-header will start approximately 20 minutes at the conclusion of the first game.
Winthrop is coming off back-to-back wins over George Washington over the weekend at the Winthrop/adidas Invitational and is now 6-12 on the season. Of the 12 losses, half of them have been by one run.
The Eagles have won five straight Big South openers with the last loss coming in 2005 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 1-0. Winthrop has won seven of its last eight conference openers.
Chelsey Schoenfeldt was named to the Winthrop/adidas All-Tournament team after she posted a 1-1 record with a 1.21earned run average. She also batted .333 during the three-day tourney. She currently leads the team in batting with a .333 average.
Presbyterian College has been on a roll so far this season with a 9-2-1 record and have also won two straight. The only two losses have come against Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne and Kent State. The Blue Hose opened the season with seven straight wins. As a team they are batting .279 and have a team ERA of 2.19 and has not been shutout this season.
Winthrop is likely to see the ace of the Blue Hose in the first game as Leslie Hensley is 6-1 on the year with a 0.78 ERA and has 40 strikeouts to just two walks in 45 innings of work.
