ROCK HILL, SC—The Winthrop softball team will look to end its current losing streak when it hosts the Winthrop/adidas Invitational this weekend, Mar. 11-13.
The nine-team field will compete over three days with all the games being played at the Winthrop Softball Complex on two separate fields. The tournament will begin on Friday, Mar. 11 at 11 a.m. with Winthrop facing UNC Wilmington on Terry Field and Providence facing Towson on Field C (opposite field to Terry Field).
The Eagles have lost eight straight and are coming off two one-run losses at the Buzz Classic in Woodstock, GA last weekend before the remainder of the tournament was rained out. Winthrop is 14-2 since 2007 at the Winthrop/adidas Invitational.
In addition to Winthrop, UNCW, Providence and Towson, the field will also consist of Charlotte, Wright State, Cleveland State, Gardner-Webb and George Washington.
The tournament is an opportunity for fans to see quality programs from outside the region as the competition coming in has combined for wins over Illinois, South Carolina, Georgetown, Akron, and Seton Hall.
The past two seasons there has been a lot of rain during the Winthrop/adidas Invitational, but the forecast for the weekend is clear skies and sunny. Tickets for the event are $5 all day or $10 for the entire weekend.
