Men's Soccer At VMI Preview

Men's Soccer Will Look To End Losing Streak At VMI Saturday Afternoon

Winthrop Takes On VMI In Its 8th Straight Road Contest

Live Stats

ROCK HILL, SC—
For the eighth consecutive game, Winthrop will be on the road as it visits Virginia Military Institute on Saturday in hopes of ending a seven-game losing streak.
It's been 35 days since the Eagles last played a home game and they are looking to finally get back to playing on Eagle Field but must first try and right the ship Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. against a pesky VMI squad.
Winthrop is 3-7 after opening the season with three straight home wins and has since lost its ability to put the ball in the net. The first three games of the year the Eagles scored 10 goals and have scored once since, including none in the last six contests. It's been 587 minutes and 38 seconds since the last Eagles goal, which is a school record. The seven losses in a row tie a school record, which was set by the 1976 team.
On the flip side, Winthrop has also been allowing goals at an alarming rate having given up 22 goals in the seven game losing streak. That's an average of 3.1 goals per game.
The Eagles are 10-0-2 all-time against the Keydets and have won the last three meetings, but the last two meetings in Lexington, VA have been close with the Eagles squeaking out a 2-0 victory in 2009 and the game in 2007 finished in a 0-0 tie.
VMI is coming off a 3-1 loss at Presbyterian College this past weekend and have posted a 1-9-1 on the year with the lone victory coming on Sept. 25 in a 2-1 victory over UNC Asheville. VMI is 1-0-1 in the last two games at home.
The Keydets have had as much trouble as Winthrop scoring goals, averaging just 0.80 per game but have managed five of their nine goals on the season in the last three games. VMI has also given up five fewer goals than the Eagles.
Sophomore Aaron White and junior David Rochow lead the offense with two goals apiece, while White leads in points with five. Junior goalkeeper Taylor Feuerstein is likely to be in net for VMI as he's started nine of the 10 games he's appeared and has been in net three of the last four games.
