ROCK HILL, SC--
The men's soccer team is looking to build on its victory over the weekend as it hosts Presbyterian College Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. at Eagle Field.

Winthrop is coming off its second road win of the year, earning a 1-0 victory in overtime at Liberty on Saturday. It was the first win at Liberty in almost 20 years and improves the team's chances to make the Big South Conference Tournament in November.

The Eagles improved to 5-9 overall and 2-3 in the Big South with four conference matches remaining.

Winthrop earned the victory despite missing its leading scorer in junior Alex Mantchev and junior Matt Sluga, who has started five games and played in 12.
Mantchev could possibly return for Saturday's match while Sluga should return against Presbyterian College.

Adam Brundle scored the game-winning goal in overtime against Liberty on Saturday, his second of the season. Both of his goals have been game-winners in overtime (the first vs. Georgia Southern on Sept. 1).

The Eagles are currently 2-3 in the league and tied with Liberty, High Point and UNC Asheville in wins, but all three of those teams also have a tie and are one point ahead. Liberty has one more game played and High Point, UNC Asheville have each played two more games than the Eagles.

The Blue Hose enter the game at 3-3 in the Big South and sitting in a tie for third place in the latest standings. Overall, Presbyterian College is 3-11 but is 2-2 in the last four contests. They will be looking for their first road win as they are currently 0-7 away from Clinton, SC.

Junior Byron Quinatoa leads the team in scoring with four goals and one assist while freshman Ignacio Monchetti is second with two goals and four assists. Junior Jonny Mercado is coming off a two goal performance in the win over Radford and has three goals and an assist on the year.

Freshman Ethan Watson was in net for the win over Radford and has a 2-8 record on the year. He's started 10 of the 11 games in which he's played and has a 2.55 goals against average. Winthrop leads the all-time series 10-0 and a goal in the 88th minute gave Winthrop a 1-0 victory at Presbyterian College in 2010. The last three meetings have been decided by two goals or less.
